Mangal Pandey: The Rising
The Expectations and Otherwise

After a sabbatical of four years, he's back and how. With two superhits Dil Chahta Hai and Lagaan in 2001 people wanted to know what next. Life moved on for the actor, later it was time for Lagaan to do the Oscar rounds. Each and every Indian hoped that Lagaan would win the Academy award. It didn't. And then Mangal Pandey happened.Aamir is pitted opposite his Ghulam co-star Rani Mukerjee. . The promos of the film are out and if the whistles and catcalls that the trailer derives from the audiences when its screened in the theatres, is anything to go by then Mr. Khan has another winner in his hands. The expectations are soaring high but the question is will it live up to its expectations?

This period drama releases mid august and its sure to get a phenomenal opening because of many obvious reasons. Aamir describes his character of Mangal Pandey as the paradigm cal symbol of freedom. Rani Mukerjee plays a prostitute to perfection. The director of the film is Ketan Mehta and the music is keyed by A.R.Rehman and the lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar. The two songs shown in the trailers look haunting. The title song really gets one's attention captivated. The cinematography is as slick as it can get. Also the Independence Day feeling would be on its peak around the time the film would release. So as far as the films release is concerned everything looks perfect and seems to go in favor of the film. As a cinegoer the promos have really excited me and what I would expect from the film would be a larger than life historical character, Mangal Pandey brought to life on screen. I would expect powerhouse performances from the main protagonist Aamir Khan and sensitive performances from Rani and Amisha and some soulful melodious songs. I would assume that the boring history lesson which was forced down our throats when in school would now rebounce as something really inspiring that we failed to recognize

then. Hopefully this one would be intelligent, informative and most importantly, extremely entertaining. With Aamir around and his known strive for perfection, I am sure it would be atleast worth a watch and the waiting is almost over and guess what its COMING!!!!!
