Veer Zaara Collections Worldwide


Yash Chopra's Love Legend, Veer Zaara, has won the hearts of people all over the world. The figures are in, and the verdict is clear. The film is on its way to becoming one of the biggest hits of the year worldwide. The figures provided by Yashraj Films are quite stunning and unbelievable as well. Anyway, here goes…

Some Highlights...

UNITED KINGDOM (UK)

Veer Zaara recorded the Highest ever opening for a Hindi film in UK. Released at 60 sites in the UK, it collected £ 484,993 in its opening weekend, with a per site average of £ 8,083. It opened at number 4 in the UK Box Office, even though it faced competition from Big Hollywood films like Bridget Jones 2 and The Grudge.

Veer Zaara had to face as many as 12 new releases in its first weekend in UK [Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason, Ladies In Lavender, Anacondas, Shaolin Soccer, Toolbox Murders, A Way Of Life, Reconstruction, The Hillside Strangler, Nobody Knows, Angel On The Right, Uncovered: The War On Iraq And Radio On]. Yet, despite stiff opposition, the collections of the film were astonishing.

On the second weekend, Veer Zaara remained strong at No. 6 in the UK box office. In its second weekend, the film has collected £ 323,905 on 59 screens, with the per screen average of £ 5,490. In its third weekend, it was at No. 8 in the UK box office with a collection of £ 199,848 on 50 screens, with the per screen average of £ 3,997.
The total collections so far are £ 1,467,180 [approximately Rs. 12.37 crores].

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (USA)

Veer Zaara recorded the 2nd Biggest opening ever for a Hindi film in USA and debuted at No. 15 position. In its opening weekend, the film collected US$ 903,010 on 88 screens, with the per screen average of US$ 10,261. In New York, the film debuted at No. 16 position, collecting US$ 51,474 on 3 screens, with the per screen average working out to US$ 17,158. The first week grossed US$1.2 million in the USA.

Veer Zaara had to face as many as 9 new releases in its first weekend in USA [Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason, The Polar Express, After The Sunset, Seed Of Chucky, Finding Neverland, Kinsey, La Petite Lili, Bright Future And Who Killed Bambi?].
In its second week, the film collected US$ 850,000 on 83 screens, with the per screen average of US$ 10,240. In its third weekend, the film has collected US$ 403,841 on 81 screens, with the per screen average of US$ 4,986. At the end of third weekend, the US gross has already crossed US$ 2.4 million in total [approximately Rs. 11 crores].

AUSTRALIA

Veer Zaara had the Highest ever opening for a Hindi film in Australia. It opened at number 15 in its opening weekend with collections of AUD$ 83,830 on 8 screens in the first weekend.

Veer Zaara also had a record second weekend and the film collected AUD$ 77,549 on 8 screens. Infact it was down just 7% in comparison to the first week’s collections, which is generally unheard of [BRIDGET JONES fell 42% in the same period] and also rose to number 14 in its second weekend. It also had the second highest national screen average per print in the second weekend (The Grudge was No.1) according to the MPDAA's weekend TOP 20 report. On the limited release chart Veer Zaara moved to number 2 with the highest screen average by a very long way. The per screen average for the second weekend was AUD$ 9,694 [1st weekend: AUD$ 10,479].

In the third weekend, Veer Zaara still had the highest per screen average of all films on limited release (under 50 prints) and is yet rock-steady. The collections for the third weekend were AUD$ 41,461 on 8 screens, with the per screen average of AUD$ 5,183. The film was at No. 20 in Australian charts in the third weekend.
With the total so far having touched AUD$ 255,691 [approximately Rs. 88.34 lacs], Veer Zaara has already emerged a blockbuster in this market as well.

INDIA

Veer Zaara opened to 100% collections in Mumbai, Delhi and other parts of India and has done record-breaking collections at the box office all over India. It had the Biggest opening in the History of Indian Cinema in Mumbai, Punjab and Kolkata territories. The Average per print for the first week was Rs. 6,85,948 and was Rs. 4,25,272 for the second week.

In India, the collection at the Box Office have already crossed Rupees 30 crores (US$ 6 million approximately) and is yet going strong.
