Abhishek
Bachchan reminds you of the AB of yore. Only,
this young man also stands out with his superlative
performance.
Comparisons
are inevitable between Bachchan and his son,
but Abhishek is at his best as Suraj Shrivastava,
a young man from the heart of hinterland with
fire in his heart and dreams in his eyes.
When
apna Banarasi babu comes to the city of his
dreams, Mumbai, he comes in touch with the man
who can make his dreams come true. Suraj has
with him a file of big people including Naved
Ali, his inspiration, and the last page of this
scrap book, he has left empty for himself.
On
the first day of college, he meets Pooja (Rani
Mukherjee) and then there is love, but Suraj
is steadfast in the sense that he won't rest
till he has realised his dream.
With
the aid of Naved Ali (Jackie Shroff) who is
Suraj's idol, it looks as though he will realise
his dreams. There is the ultra-glamorous Lara
(Sushmita Sen) thrown is for a good measure
as well. Sushmita who is with Naved, helps change
Abhishek to suit the social circuit.
While
apna Suraj thinks his dream is being realised,
in reality he is merely a pawn in a big game.
And then there is the usual happy ending etc
etc.
Abhishek
and Jackie have given brilliant performances,
Sameer Arya's cinematography is notable and
Goldie Behl's directoral debut is definitely
worth an appreciation. The songs are very well
shot and the music by Adesh Shrivastav is worth
a suno.
If
only, the scissors would have been a little
more tight at the editing table, the film could
have been pacier.
Bas
Itna Sa Khwab Hai, the childhood dream of Goldie
Behl and Abhishek Bachchan gets realised with
this film
Those fans of Bachchan of yore
can watch this one to see glimpses of the Big
B in the Small B
