Director: E. Niwas PREDICTED RATING: 4/10 Whether or not Company and Road are officially hits, Vivek Oberoi certainly left a maximum impact. After churning out two films under the Ram Gopal Verma banner, Vivek changes lanes and moves to an equally prestigious banner, Cineyug. Cineyug have remarkable films like Raja Hindustani, Vardi and Damini in their kitty, but this time seem to have conjured up a film that reeks of old wine in a new bottle. Uday (Vivek Oberoi) is a determined and moralistic individual who has the drive and courage to make it as a cop to serve his country. His values and beliefs clash with the evils that exist in the police force and when he comes head to head with "the bad cop" (Atul Kulkarni) he is evermore determined to make good win over evil. Uday gets acquainted with Mohan, a similar minded aspiring cop, and the two soon share a special bond. They attempt to prevail the obstacles that confront them in the police force; unlawful intentions from top politician Deshmukh, who uses and abuses his position to remain at the top. A love story is interwoven into what is predominantly a film about good cops and bad cops. Kaveri (Diya Mirza) is a TV host and is willing to give up her life in order to gain Uday's heart. Uday though cares for Kaveri enough, that he doesn't want her to tread the dangerous path he is about to embark. However, Kaveri feels patience will be her virtue and Uday will eventually accept her love. The latest trailers boast of extraordinary cinematography and a unique visual style. However, the honest cop in a dishonest society is perhaps a theme that worked best in the 80's. Twenty years later, it's a little daunting as to where a film like this will fit in a 21st century audience. Expect the film in cinemas from 17th January 2003.
