CHALTE CHALTE

Director: Aziz Mirza
Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Lilette Dubey
Producer: Dreamz Unlimited and UTV Productions
Music Director: Jatin Lalit and Aadesh Shrivastava
Lyrics: Javed Akhtar

PREDICTED RATING: 9/10

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan makes a welcome return to the big screen with the romantic flick Chalte Chalte. The movie reunites the actor with Rani Mukherjee, who previous played supporting roles in two of his blockbusters, namely Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Of course, Shah Rukh has also returned the favour by making special appearances in two of Rani's films (Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Saathiya). However this is the first time they both have leading roles opposite each other.

Chalte Chalte is directed by Aziz Mirza and follows the relationship of Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Priya (Rani Mukherjee). Fate introduces them to each other. Raj is a middle class owner of a fleet of trucks but Priya mistakes him for a working class driver after spotting him behind the steering wheel. The two are complete opposites in terms of personality:

Raj is brash, hard working and earthy. Priya is a sophisticated and emotional perfectionist. However whilst they acknowledge their differences, the two youngsters decide that occasionally opposites attract and they slowly fall in love with each other and decide to get married. For many Bollywood movies, this is the 'happily ever after' ending. However in Chalte Chalte this is the beginning of the story.

Conflicts start arising between the two newly weds for various reasons, such as their different economic backgrounds. Its gets to the stage where the two consider whether its worth fighting to save the marriage or going their separate ways. However fate, which brought the two together in the first place, is now set re-light the flames of love!

With Chalte Chalte's soundtrack riding high in the charts at the moment, especially the song Tauba Tumhare Ishare, all eyes are on the actual film now. With no big hit so far in 2003, with King Khan once again rescue the box office with a little help from Rani Mukherjee?
