MOVIE STORY
After making an impact with his directorial debut Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, newcomer Rajat Mukherjee returns for a second time with the thriller Road, starring Vivek Oberoi, Antara Mali and Manoj Bajpai. The film's plot is quite novel for Bollywood and follows a young couple who are deeply in love with each other but the girl's parents do not approve of the relationship. They decide to defy the parents by eloping and set off on a road trip. In the middle of nowhere, the couple meets a hitchhiker whose car has broken down. They decide to give him a lift but soon regret the decision when the man starts to show psychotic tendencies that puts the youngster's lives in danger.

MOVIE BACKGROUND
Although ROAD has been inspired in part by the film Breakdown (starring Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan), it still manages to tackle new ground for a Bollywood movie. Antara Mali, after appearing in a number of short roles in Verma's films does an out and out leading role, and Verma also introduces Vivek Oberoi as a full fledge hero after 'COMPANY'. Manoj Bajpai also joins the two newcomers and gives a great performance, although it is getting a bit tiring seeing him in the same roles repeatedly. Director Rajat Mukherjee is back in form after his debut Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya and has presented the story with style and panache. Right from the titles to the last frame, the craftsmanship is visible in every frame. The shot execution is simply fabulous. But Mukherjee ought to have concentrated on the content as well. On the whole, ROAD caters more to the city audience and would appeal to those who understand and appreciate cinema of this genre. Business so far has not been great, comments about the weak script, and loose screenplay, but performances have been greatly appreciated. Nevertheless, an interesting flick to watch!
