STORY
Suspense thriller Deewangee revolves around
three central characters. Tarang (Ajay Devgan)
is the poor man framed the gruesome murder of
a famous media tycoon. Raj (Akshaye Khanna)
is a successful lawyer with strong morals and
a thirst to prove Tarang's innocence and save
him from the death sentence. And finally, Sargam
(Urmila) the pretty popstar, who just happens
to be the object of affection for both of the
leading men. Tarang is her mentor and childhood
friend, who silently adores her with a passion.
But Raj, on the other hand, is the new man in
her life. He is a self-assured man and in many
ways is the complete opposite to Tarang. Who
does Sargam fall for? Who is the mysterious
Ranjeet? Is justice finally served? All of these
questions are answered in Deewangee, an action-packed
Bollywood flick- with a twist.
MOVIE
BACKGROUND
Director Anees Bazmee claims Deewangee is not
a remake of 1996 Richard Gere starrer Primal
Fear, he may be partly right, but no one can
deny certain striking resemblance's between
the two. After all, this was the director who
managed to remake French Kiss almost frame to
frame with Pyar Ho Hona Hi Tha. Deewangee has
the added twist of a love triangle to liven
things up…this is Bollywood
and where would all the song and dances come
from otherwise?? In terms of music, some of
the songs are definitely above average, such
as the slushy 'Pyaar Se Pyaare' and the upbeat
'Dholi O Dholi'. But with a serious film genre
such as this, sudden eruptions of songs are
probably not too appropriate. Performances in
the film are pretty good, not suprisingly Ajay
Devgan manages to steal the limelight from the
others while playing his multi-faceted role.
Overall, Deewangee has quite a different quality
from the average Hindi film. Despite the predictability
and cheesyness of it, Deewangee manages to keep
you entertained for almost all of the 167 minutes.
It also did better than expected at the box
office, proving above average in many parts
of India during a terrible year for the Indian
film industry.
