STORY:
'Bas
Itna Sa Khwaab Hai' is about turning dreams
into reality. On this occasion it's the dreams
of Suraj Shrivastav (Abhishek Bachchan), a nice,
honest Indian boy who wants to make a name for
himself in Mumbai.
Lady
luck seems to accompany him on his move to the
city, and he soon finds love (Rani Mukherjee),
as well as flash cars and heaps of money courtesy
of job with media tycoon Naved Ali (Jackie Shroff).
Who could ask for a better start?
However
it eventually dawns on our slightly naïve
hero that Ali is a manipulative and power hungry
guy who will do anything for money. This
isn't the way Suraj wanted to reach his dreams,
but is he willing to let his new lifestyle go
in return for a clean conscience?
MOVIE BACKGROUND:
Unfortunately
for Abhishek Bachchan, this movie was yet another
flop in his career. It's hardly worth bothering
recounting the plot, as it'll be more than familiar
to countless Bollywood cinemagoers, borrowing
elements of several movies, including 'Raju
Bangaya Gentleman' and 'Shree 420'.
But
director Goldie Behl tries hard to give the
film a 'yoof' spin, and does just enough to
make this unoriginal drama slightly appealing.
The
first half skips along at a fairy brisk pace,
and while things get very circuitous as events
unravel, Abhishek Bachchan is definitely growing
with each film, giving another authoritative
performance here. Nice
turns from Jackie Shroff, Rani Mukherjee and
Sushmita Sen (as Jackie's sidekick) are also
worth a word of praise, as is the film's melodious
score.
Passes
the time, even if there are no surprises on
offer in the tired story.
