MOVIE
STORY:
Amar Akbar Anthony is about three brothers who
get separated at a very young age and are adopted
by people with different religions. Therefore,
the first brother is Hindu, the second a Muslim
and the third a Christian. Whilst Amar the Hindu
grows up to become a police officer, Akbar the
Muslim becomes a tailor and Anthony the Christian
turns into a good for nothing loafer. Each of
the men also finds love in their own individual
way with three beautiful women. After a series
of trial and tribulations, the lost and disintegrated
family reunites.
MOVIE BACKGROUND:
Amar Akbar Anthony features an all star cast
including the likes of Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor,
Pran, Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi and Neetu Singh.
It has excellent performances from the whole
cast, but the highlight is undoubtedly Amitabh
Bachchan, who bagged the Filmfare Best Actor
Award in 1978. The film also won the award for
best music thanks to the best selling soundtrack
by Laxmikant Pyarelal, which included the smash
hit tracks 'My Name is Anthony Gonsalves' and
'Amar Akbar Anthony'. The film instantly struck
a chord with the audience, who couldn't get
enough of the film's perfect mixture of laugh
out loud comedy, edge of your seat action and
tear jerking romance. The movie set the trend
for films based on lost and found themes. A
dozen odd movies were made with a similar theme
after Amar Akbar Anthony struck gold at the
box office, but none of them succeeded like
the original.
