2007 saw 4 of their movies flop at the Box Office, but Yash Raj Films are still trying to squeeze money from wherever they can.
Indian media has reported that Yash Raj Films are keeping a close eye on public events, to see where and when music of their films is used. YRS demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from the organisers of a bash featuring Koena Mitra and Tanushree Dutta on New Years Eve. The two girls had to change their performances after Yash Raj Films demanded the organisers pay Rs 3 lakh for Aaja Nachle and Kajra Re numbers. The organisers refused to pay, hence the perforamces were changed.
When contacted about this incident, Yash Raj Films said, “We have a rate list, as others do, for usage of repertoire for concerts and major commercial events, particularly televised events. The rates vary, based on the usage YRF also has package arrangements with various users, based on frequency of sage. YRF waives off charges for chairtable events.”
What are your thoughts on this demand from Yash Raj Films? Do you think that they are right in demanding money from such organisers and events, or is this a little too much? Are Yash Raj Films setting a new precedent for production houses to follow, and could this damage the promotion and popularity of films?
