For generations, Indian classics have been an inspiration to the current breed of film makers. For the talented director Tanuja Chandra, of Dushmani and Zindagi Rocks fame, inspiration came from the eternal Mehboob Khan classical Mother India. The film which is one of the three Bollywood entries to be shortlisted for the Oscars was the turning point in Chandra’s life.
In her recent interview to a Tv channel Tanuja says that “I saw the movie for the first time when I was in America in a film school, for my writing and research work. It is the film I love the most and absolutely cherish.”
The movie considered to be the textbook for film-making inspired Chandra to take up her career seriously.
“It got me hooked up to film making. I still refer to Mother India for my projects and as to how a film is shot and how the scenes are written,” says Tanuja. At last, someone’s looking towards one’s own heritage for lessons.
