25 years ago, noted Indian actress Shabana Azmi was getting ready to portray the role of Benazir Bhutto for a big budget flick. However, due to the then tensions between India and Pakistan, the project was shelved. Now, with interest in Bhutto’s life at a high because of her passing away, the movie could be put back into production.
Renowned writer Tariq Ali has expressed an interest in authoring an updated script for a theatrical version of the deceased icon’s life. The writer already took permission from Bhutto before she was killed.
When Shabana Azmi was asked if she would still be interested in depicting Bhutto, she said, ““I’d love to play Benazir in a film.”
