The Uttar Pradesh government has now lifted the ban imposed on the Madhuri Dixit comeback-film Aaja Nachle, but the film may be pulled from theatres in Maharashta.
After an apology from Yash Raj Films, whom also agreed to delete an offending line from one of the songs in the film, fans of Madhuri Dixit in Uttar Pradesh were allowed into the theatres to see the movie. The film is still not being shown in Punjab, with a short-term ban likely to take place in Maharashtra also.
“It was not our intention to hurt the feelings of any individual or community of our great nation. If we have inadvertently hurt the sentiments of anybody, I apologise for the same,” filmmaker Yash Chopra, chairman of Yash Raj, said in a statement. “We have taken immediate remedial action by deleting the line from the prints of Aaja Nachle all over the country.”
Censor board chief Sharmila Tagore apologised also for overlooking the line “Bazaar mein machi hai mara maar, bole mochi bhi khud ko sonar.”
