Walchandnagar Industries Ltd set off into its 100th year of operations with a mark of respect to its founder and one of India’s foremost visionaries of Business and Industry, Seth Walchand Hirachand, on his 125th birth anniversary by celebrating the same with a special weekend of festivities which revolved around the ‘Sprit of Entrepreneurship’.
The weekend set off in Mumbai on Nov 23, 2007 with an address and toast to Entrepreneurship and to one of its leading visionaries by the former President of India Dr. Abdul Kalam. Walchandnagar Industries Ltd has been a close partner in the growth and actualisation of India in the area of Nuclear Power, Defense and Aerospace of which Dr. Kalam is one of the pioneers. Dr Kalam described the industrialist as a creative genius and acknowledged his entrepreneurial efficiency. He said that India needed entrepreneurs and leaders like Seth Walchand to attain a status of a developed nation.
Mr. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries Ltd and India’s most revered ‘Entrepreneur of Today’ also aptly shed light on the path for India’s progress and global leadership onwards whilst acknowledging Seth Walchand’s role in setting this path off. He spoke about Seth Walchand’s spirit of “India can do it”. He said Walchandnagar Ind Ltd is completing 100 years of business continuity. This speaks a lot about the farsighted business acumen that he had. He foresaw globalisation a 100 years ago. He has truly left behind him a rich legacy of value, vision and enterprise.
A special commemorative book on the life of Seth Walchand Hirachand titled “Seth Walchand Hirachand – Man, his times and achievements was released by Dr Kalam on this occasion.
Some other eminent people present were Abhishek & Ashwairya Rai Bachan. Mr Amitabh & Jaya Bachan were also present. The others included Harsh Goenka, Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Karan Johar, Surilly Goel, & Aarti & Kailash Surendranath.
The celebrations will move to Walchandnagar, the nuclear township set up by Seth Walchand Hirachand,– on Sunday Nov 25, 2007 where Dr Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, will address the 5000 strong guests including residents of the township, factory workers and people who have been part of this visionary man’s dream.
Walchandnagar Industries Ltd will dedicate its next centenary of successful operation to its leader and founder Seth Walchand Hirachand and his ‘Spirit of Entrepreneurship’
