EXCLUSIVE REVIEW BY HANUMANT BHANSALI

Gauri – The Unborn is a horror flick which fails to evoke the basic emotion of fear in most of the scenes. Though the film offers a different tale, the screenplay is not tight enough to hold you without the boring signs of yawn.

Likewise, the climax of Gauri – The Unborn is quite chilling and is delivered with a social message, that is constantly trespassed even in today’s modern world – foeticide.

Sudeep (Atul Kulkarni), with his wife Roshni (Rituparna Sengupta) and their daughter Shivani end up going to their ancestral home on a holiday. Shivani’s desire is fulfilled but now the haunting past is back to take the family on a traumatic journey.

The movie lacks pace and the scenes look forced in. Neither the spirit’s revengeful glare nor the events following it synchronize in perfection. The narration lacks a lot of thrilling moments which could have added to the climax – the only point when you’ll leave the theatre on a high note.

Aku Akbar turns out to be a prolific technician in his debutante film as a director. Likewise, the script is not developed and looks edgy most of the times. Cinematography is strictly okay. Background score is well arranged and enhances the scenes effect most of the times.

Actingwise, Atul lends in a soulless performance. Rituparna too is not seen in her flawless stints. Baby Rushita Pandya as Shivani is fantastic. Anupam Kher is sidelined.

Overall, Gauri – The Unborn may just end up in the pile of horror flicks which had a good story but lacked promotion and quality script to back it.

Radiosargam Movie Rating: 4/10
