It may have missed the Oscar bus but there seem to be more laurels ahead for Gandhi – My Father, which received widespread critical cheers when it released in August.
After gathering top honours at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, the Lyon Asian Film Festival and the Tokyo International Film Festival recently, the bio-pic has now been invited by a cultural festival in Berlin to celebrate the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
Going places
Says director Feroz Abbas Khan jubilantly, “It’s actually more of a forum than a festival. They’re focusing on the virtues of Mahatma Gandhi. The film will be screened, followed by a discussion.”
Next, the film is off to the upcoming Thiruvananthapuram Film Festival.
To rewind, Gandhi— My Father was the only Indian film in competition at the Tokyo Film Festival, in which Shefali Shah romped home with the Best Actress Award. At the Lyon Asian Film Festival, it picked up three trophies – the Critics, Audience and Junior Jury Choice awards.
Winner all the way
A week ago, the movie won in the Best Screenplay category at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia.
“It was quite tough there because the participating films were highly acclaimed,” states Khan.
In addition, Harvard University screened the film in Boston recently. The screening was organised by the Harvard Students’ Foundation.
