Theatre actor Darshan Jariwala, who played Mahatma Gandhi in Anil Kapoor’s ‘Gandhi, My Father’, will soon be seen in Yash Chopra’s upcoming ‘Aaja Nachle’. Here, he plays Madhuri Dixit’s dance guru!
Darshan (actor Apara Mehta’s husband), who loves swinging to DJ numbers at parties, reveals albeit reluctantly, “Director Anil Mehta has cast me in ‘Aaja Nachle’ as Makarand, the leader of the small-town amateur dance group where Madhuri is being trained as a dancer. I play Madhuri’s instructor. I am the catalyst in her rise to glory. I shed my inhibitions and imbibed a few dance steps after a crash-course with choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant,” says Darshan who has matched steps with Madhuri in the film.
“The down-to-earth professional that Madhuri is, makes her a dream to work with. She complimented me on my performance in ‘Gandhi, My Father’,” enthuses Darshan.
Incidentally, Darshan is also cast as the menacing politician in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s upcoming ‘Halla Bol’. Here, he is pitted against Ajay Devgan. Recently, he was also seen in a hilarious role in the movie ‘Loins of Punjab’. “Being a director’s actor, why should I be trapped in any image?” he retorts.
