Brazil’s movie-lovers are in an awe with the Bollywood movies screened at their theatres. The movies pulling crowds into the cinema halls in Brazil include Don, Dhoom and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, which unbelievably are the most popular movies in the country.
Bollywood has found a lot of international acclaim and appreciation in the recent years. But, such a seeming popularity for the latest bollywood flicks shows that the sleek look spiced up with the Indian masala, is the new flavour in the west. Well-known Brazilian film producer Mauricio Andrade Ramos, said at the ongoing 12th Kolkata Film Festival that “since the new Left Democrat government came to power about six years ago, the cultural ties between India and Brazil have become far more stronger.
Hence, more and more Indian films, mostly popular Hindi movies, were being screened in different Brazilian cities including Rio-De-Janeiro, Sao Paolo and the capital Brasilia and drawing large audience everywhere.” So, Bhangra is the new tequila for the Latin Americans. What do you say?
