Sanjay Leela Bhansali has come out fighting in defence of his movie Saawariya, and at the top of his target list is… Shah Rukh Khan.
As Om Shanti Om runs away with the top accolades for the Diwali battle, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has gone on record to ask the Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan some very awkward questions. “Shah Rukh Khan is the king of Bollywood. He can say whatever he likes. But why is he going around saying, ‘I will destroy them?’ Where is the dignity of the reigning superstar? Why compare yourself to a film with two newcomers? Who are you to destroy them? Have you created them? Do we eat off your plate? Have we made the film with your money? What gives you the right to say you will destroy 150 people who have invested so much in the film? Let people judge. It’s a film with good values, and principles, people should appreciate that,” said an angry Bhansali last night.
He then went on to express his disappointment further, “You feel disappointed. We decided that we’ll maintain a certain dignity and not pull each other’s films down. But then he started making comments like he will destroy us.”
When asked about the success of Om Shanti Om, Bhansali responded, “I feel that acting is not about six-packs but I’ve never said it until now. Why ‘destroy’ us? It’s time for new cinema, cricketers, politicians. Let the newcomers like Ranbir come in. Shah Rukh Khan will remain a king. Just because People love (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni, it doesn’t mean they will forget Sachin (Tendulkar).”
Maybe positioning Saawariya against Om Shanti Om was not a good strategy, “I’ve got a big opening. No other filmmaker would’ve got that against a Shah Rukh Khan film, and it’s a big deal. We got the biggest opening for an Indian film with newcomers in the lead. Anyway, why compare two completely different films? My films is about art, and OSO is about commerce. People are walking out of OSO too, so why are we only talking about people not liking Saawariya? There is an agenda to this,” responded Bhansali positively.
When asked about why critics such as Komal Nahta and Taran Adarsh blasted the movie, Bhansali responded, ““Only a handful of critics are trying to influence the audience against the film…Komal and Taran belong to the cinema of the eighties, they are antiquated and I never expected them to understand ‘Saawariya’. Great cinema should be kept away from such reviewers.”

I am not agree with SRK’s statement. Because according to me SRK has some kind of status. Actually saawariya and OSO both are different type of films. No competition is there. OSO is totally commercial film and Saawariya is film like very different type and not more commercial.
SRK should not have said that OSO will kill Saawariya. Both film have different audiences. As a bollywood’s king khan he doesn’t have any right to say anything. As specially OSO is creatively not comparable. It is good but totally remake movie. Nothing new in it only shahrukh’s shirtless thing and six pack body. Bhansali has its own world and imagination. Some time people like it or not but atleast I will appreciate the person that he is trying to give something innovative to the Indian audience that are used to for the one kind of cinemas.

SRK is an arrogant other world backed actor. He is a no-talent 4-expressions ugly actor who is just a conduit for questionable money sources.
Most of his movies are boring and his co-stars alway beat him in the acting stakes. He should not shoot his mouth of because of his feigned king of bollywood status. He is not talented in the acting sense, but is more of a PR type of guy!

I agree that both films are different and are made for different audiences. It’s truly sad when you see star power degrade themselves such as SRK and SLB. I’ve seen many of SRK’s interviews and I do sense some sort or arrogance in him and the casting of “the entire bollywood” people just supported my statement. He’s trying to prove that with his star status that he can make anyone dance to his tune and it’s truly sad that such stars accepted to be his puppets. SLB should’ve just ignored the arrogance of SRK and continue to produce films like Saawariya. As audience, we crave for something new because we’re tired of the running about the trees bollywood movie. So when such film like Saawariya is made, instead of praising SLB for being different we bash him? I mean come on. It’s really funny to see what hypocrites us humans are. When someone makes good film, we praise them. When the film does not exceed our expectations we tell that same person to just “stop making film and crawl under a cave”? SLB is completely different kind of director. Saawariya is artistically very high movie and very much creative dear all. We should always see the movie with the open mind and eyes. It is not like that ki this movie has shahrukh so must be great.
Shahrukh is a commercial actor and believe only upon him. May be OSO commercially hit but I would like to reminder that this is the SLB who had given him the finest touch through the classical movie DEVDAS.
I really admire the SLB for giving class movies. One more things that why should he feel jealous from king khan as shahurkh is not comparable any level with SLB. This is the man’s frustration for the person who is trying to put his classical creation down.

SLB we know you are hurt, try to make a film better and show everyone that you are still the best director in the country. Let your work speak by itself. This critics should make you stronger and believe me, its pays.

SLB rocks..!! Saawariya was a beautiful simple love story with creativity beyond imagination. It was a sheer poetry.
Indian audience is not ready to accept such cinema from what i noticed. There maybe few but overall, Audience is used to see masala movies with no sense or logic.

No Entry - Last year are the two bright examples of what Indian Audience is all about!..
Hence, Saawariya is a masterpiece and remains so.. Many ppl i know hated OSo, and i know there are tons all over the world. But media hype/Srk has forced critics to give it a higher rating. There are ppl walking out on OSO but noone is focused on that. Saawariya is becoming Bali ka bakra for no reason. both films are different. Att the end of the day, I will prefer a Yoon Shabnami rather than Sardarde-disco!!!!!!!!

I can only say that movie is classically very high and beyond anyone’s imagination. It is only comparable with the world’s top class films. This is really ridiculous that the movie is being compared with shahrukh’s third class movie OSO which doesn’t have any creativity and all. What a rubbish compression of OSO and saawariya. One is totally classically very high and based on nice short story and other is totally remake and bakwas movie.
Please guys don’t insult the class cinemas through the nonsense compression. I really liked the class movie of the class director. Farah khan doesn’t have any sense of creativity. She is choreographer and can make only these kind of movies which provides third class entertainment. I am not expecting much more. i dont know if srk really said this or not but i wouldn’t be surprised if he did. from the interviews i’ve seen of his he seems very arrogant. i personally loved Saawariya and i’ve always loved SLB movies. OSO and Saawariya are two COMPLETEY different movies, i saw OSO as well and I got so bored in the middle. same acting as always for srk. For everyone who doesn’t like SRK, I have to say that you either have a very unique personality in the sense that you isolate your self from the masses or you simply have been living under a rock. The fact of the matter is that the reason SRK got the title of King of Bollywood is because so many people love him.
As for the whole “We will destroy” them issue, he said that in good humor when asked by a reporter about who he thinks OSO will do in theaters. He also said, in the same breath, “But you can’t take my word for it. It’s my movie so my opinion is biased.” He then went on to say,
“Ranbir is an amazing actor and I think that he has a fantastic future in front of him. The same for Soman. They are one of the few new comers that have the talent to make it in the business.”
He has gone on again and again to say that he thinks that the two are great and that he owns all the success of Devdas to SLB and his talent.
Don’t make a decision about a matter before you have all the facts.
This is to Prety. Tell me, how make people in Bollywood have as much success SRK? And don’t say that he is not successful. You have to remember that anything that he says, from a joke to a random comment made on orange juice will be twisted to suit the media. After all, what sells better than a Bollywood fight?
And you are right. SRK is very proud and he has a wright to be. He is successful and owns this to no one but himself. After all, if you get a scholar-ship in school because you are the smartest, don’t you have the wright to be proud?
And if it is a matter of pride, then why not go after a few stars that have more pride than it is healthy like Amitabh Bacchan? He is very good at acting and more then deserving of all that he has, but more than a few people have gone to say that he is very proud.
What is so wrong with that? And maybe SRK should not have said that he will destroy Sawariya, but in the context that he said it, was he so wrong to say it? I mean, are we really going to look down at a person just because he decided that having a sense of humor was a good thing?
As for the whole “respect Ranbir’s family” bit, all I have to say it that just because his father is a good actor, doesn’t mean he should get the same respect his father should. SRK made it on his own, and until Dard-E-Disco, he did it solely on the basis of his acting. If Ranbir didn’t have his father’s name, he would have been in the same state that SRK was in his first film. So don’t bash SRK for not having famous parents. I don’t that it’s fair to say that.

Amitabh Bachchan is the greatest star/actor india has ever produced. No actor before him or after him has enjoyed the level of popularity he has. Even Rajesh Khanna who was only the top star for 4 years 1969-1973 enjoyed far greater superstardom than SRK in india.

First off all ,i dont know why yu people are getting so into this and commenting and talking of this story so much.These people and im talking about SLB and SRK are minting money at the cost of stupid fans like us,SRK HAS MADE 60 CRORES FROM OSO AND SLB MADE 52 CRORES.Also for those people who appreciate OSO and Saawariya,calling them great movies well just watch Titanic and yu will see what a great movie is like,movies like titanic and lagaan are really great and worth it while movies like Saawariya and OSO are designed for the indian masses who only watch love stories.i hate commercial movies like those two,wanna make a movie make it well.Stop calling SRK a great actor yu fools cause hes nothing compared to dilip kumar[see mughal e azam]
I love Shahrukh Khan, but I still don’t think he has the right to say that he will destroy another movie. But, I think I heard him say it in a clip somewhere online and he said it in humor. It wasn’t a tone where he meant that he’s the best and that no movie is a big competition for him, but everyone was asking him questions about the other movies and he jokingly said we’ll destroy them. If he had said oh it doesn’t matter how we do as long as people like the film and both films can do well I wish SLB the best of luck them people would be complaining that he’s too nice or whatever. In humor, i think it’s fine if he did say it.
But I did watch OSO and the movie was a compete entertainment package. I loved it. He played his role in the 70s and in the present very well. And his abs were a welcomed added bonus!

I saw both movies. coz I like SLB’s movies and SRK’s acting. I thgt of OSO as average. After that I saw Sawaariya with high expectations as I love art movies. I was dissapointed as there was NO art…the story did not carry any weight… AND there were SOOOO many songs for less then 3hr movie…u call this an art movie??? Saawariya is a movie not meant for mass audiance….its a very artistic movie…more liek a broadway show.We Indians always look for non logistic masal movies..PPl come out of it.OSO and saawariya are entirely different.And Saawariya stands out as elegant on among the two.

Amitabh, Amir, Saif, hritick, Salman have something in them. Even Abhishek’s acting in ads are wonderful. In movies he should stop taking romantic roles and only choose scrips.
The one movie worth placing SRK at top for his acting was swadesh which flopped unfortunately. And he confused audience with very different follow through films like Veer zara etc.
OSO he claim he is a super star. We see him telling the same even in his real life. It’s really stupid.
Just like Koffee with karan is runover with news channels covering detailed gossip reports of bollywood, SRK’s NRI image is runover by foriegn excess of hindi movies. I developed respect for the movie Jab we met which was slic but purely kept within india all the way till the end. This enhanced the appeal of the movie for the values it highlighted.

I think its meaningless to comment on SLB’s or SRK’s reaction. In turn I feel pity for the people who are reacting against Saawariya, FOR THE MANNER in which they are doing it. I think one should appreciate the EFFORT….you may like it..you may not…but it makes no sense to rape some body’s vision and effort just because you dont even have a shade of it. Perhaps! the easiest thing to do for a defeated life is to judge others. Perhaps! only through such release mechanism are they alive …else insecurity and inferiority complex and the well imbibed sense of being good for nothing would kill, such, so called judges. Only then can one discredit anyone for a genuine effort. SO it would be more sensible if people check themselves out first before judging SLB. I was extremely pained after seeing SLB’s interview on ibnlive.com. The dear lady - the interview has well crossed her limits and that of her job’s by her immatured gestures and foolishly personal and embarrassing remarks to SLB. She comments on SLB DRAGGING her mother on stage at award functions…she calls his mom ‘POOR LADY’. This certainly is not about being a critic to a work….this certainly is what i would say…”paise ke liye naaachnaa”….prob she feels she will get paid a lil more, besides cheap popularity or populist support, so to say. I think people should judge themselves first - who they themselves are in their work spheres.

And as far respecting elders. People r saying about that 2 min scene about Mr Manoj Kumar. There is nothing to be so sensitive about it. All these comedians copy and say lot of things about the bollywood stars nobody mind that. Everything should be done and taken i a good humour. If you think he made fum of Mr. Manoj Kumar he also said that Mr. Maoj Kumar is a very nice guy he wont say anything in the movies. An i dont think it was fun. It was actually a very cute scene.

First and foremost. The on going competition between an actor and a director is completely media HYPE and uncalled for. how can u compare an actor and a director………………NOT FAIR.
Secondly there is room for everyone in Indian film industry and growth for all veteran actors as well as new comers.So both must be appreciated and not pitted against each other.
The need for this hr is that SLB must accept his defeat with GRACE, which he seems to fail to do so and acting quite kiddish.
LIFE is full of ups and downs and u cannot embrace SUCCESS all the time. SLB made a beautiful film from his VISION but people rejected it.
Everyone has a different perspective, some like the ART others dont.
In todays time when everyone has right to MARKET their product.SRK was prudent enough to sell his product well and was successful. The bottom line is OSO might not be a GREAT movie but looked good by promos and all marketing strategies.AND has become a HUGE success.
But sawariya failed to understand the vision of SLB and to make a mark in audience. No one wants to see a depressing, regressive movie devoid of entertainment particularly during FESTIVAL season.
Already life is full of stress and tensions. one wants to have fun and enjoy. So lock ur brains keep ur thinking Hats at home and enjoy OSO, JWM and many more movies to come.

Saawariya is a good movie - not many appreciare it, but some do. It does have good principles, values, a handful of warmth from two newcomers, love, romance and good fantasy evenings. It has flopped, yes. But that gives SLB no right to question or criticize SRK and OSO. OSO is a classic. And a film-maker like SLB, who has won several awards should appreciate it. SRK may be over 40 but his acting is marvellous. OSO did not destroy anyone - the audience did. So, please, SLB, express your disappointment to the audience. Let’s see what he gets. He response might just be rotten tomatoes. Maybe. And that’s all what the audience have to say.

When devdas was screened at Cannes,most of the delegates walked out of boredom!!!Cinema in a large canvas,a worldclass cinematographor in Ravi.K.Chandran…lot of exotic costumes(be it HDDCS or DEVDAS) and a brilliant art director, every shot is beautiful frame by frame…but this wht u call cinema?If Black looked beautiful in each frame,credit should go 2 ravi K CHndran,the cinematographor…..an those from hindi belt who hav celebrated crap like “um Aap ke hai Kon?” as a master craft who dont knw what good cinema is all about is hails a stupid director like SLB as a master act!!!!
