R. R. Oomerbhoy Pvt. Ltd. (RRO), a leading food company in India with a large product portfolio ranging from edible oils to global food brands, in association with Riso Gallo, leading producers of rice in Italy, organized the country’s first-of-its-kind ‘Risotto Challenge’ in Mumbai yesterday. The mega event, held at the soothing and eloquent ambience of the Blue Sea Banquets at Worli, witnessed participation of 11 culinary experts from Mumbai’s leading five star hotels and Italian restaurants.
Winners & Contestants
Chef Jaydeep Mukherjee from Indigo Delicatessen was awarded The Risotto Challenge winner, who received a grand prize of a return air ticket to Italy , including a training program of at least 2 weeks at the prestigious International Culinary Institute For Foreigners (I.C.I.F.). Chef Rakesh Upadhyay of ITC Grand Central and Amitesh Virdi of Celini restaurant (Grand Hyatt) were jojntly adjudged winners of best non-veg risotto. They received a personal Chef’s Kit Kitchen Set each.
The Risotto Challenge had received an overwhelming response. Senior chefs – from leading hotels like The Ambassador Hotel (Chef Lama), Leela Kempiski (Chef Blaise Elias Pereira), Le Royal Meridien (Chef Navin Kumar), – and from some of city’s exquisite restaurants like Indigo (Chef Keyur Chandorkar), Salt Water Grill (Chef Gresham Fernandes), Olive Bar & Kitchen (Chef Runa Rajiv Gedam), IVY (Chef Mitesh Rangras) and “Taxi” The fusion Kitchen (Chef Siddharth n. Vadhavkar) – contested for the title through their creative gourmet creations.
Panel of Judges
The panel of judges consisted of distinguished personalities from the media, corporate and culinary world. Mr. Ricardo Preve, Director, Riso Gallo; Mr. Sergio Sgambato, Secretary General, Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Vikram Doctor, leading food columnist and Ms. Rashmi Uday Singh, internationally renowned Food Writer & TV anchor, judged the culinary contest using Taste, Originality & Creativity and Presentation of the dishes as the primary parameters.
Audience
The contestants displayed their culinary skills in front of a live audience. Among those who graced the occasion included Aleandro Titiunik, Export Manager, Riso Gallo; Principals and senior representatives of colleges – like Institute for Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition; Sophia College ; Nirmala Niketan College of Home Science.
