Saawariya makes it into New Zealand Top 10
Published by  Webmaster  at 08:56:37 pm on November 12, 2007

Now this might come as a big surprise to you, but Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum-opus Saawariya has done one better than Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om… in New Zealand.

Saawariya has opened at an unexpected number 7, while there is no sign of Om Shanti Om anywhere. The film’s total collections for the weekend were $44,431 with a per screen average of $5,554.

Some reports are saying that the reason behind Om Shanti Om not making it anywhere in the charts is because Eros International never released it in New Zealand. If this is true, and if you are from New Zealand, then do let us know if you did manage to see the film anywhere… or not. Leave your feedback in the comments section below.

  5. i don’t exactly no whr this info is from. I live in nz. N the majority of the ppl round here did not lyk saawariya and absolutely luved OSO. OSO has been released here on the 9th, on the same day as saawariya. OSO was advertised a lot more than saawariya and a lot more people knew about. However there were a few pre screenings of saawariya none that I know of of OSO. maybe that influences the charts.

  7. sorry you got a wrong information people are more crazy with om shanti om than sawarya its hard to get tickets of om shanti om in cinemas around nz and those who have watched sawarya are just saying it is a time waste and every thing happened in andhera seems there is no suraj in sanjay leela bansali’s life anyway if you do the right survey people will vote for om shanti om not sawarya!

  21. I am from NZ and I am in love with Saawariya. I have seen it twice! It is a brilliant masterpiece. Visually magnificent and the music is just enchanting. I don’t understand why people in New Zealand and other places did not appreciate the concept of this movie. This movie has a very meaningful theme and executed in a beautiful poetic manner.

I think it is one of the best movies that I’ve seen in a very long time. It’s an innovative approach of presenting a very simple and realistic love story. It has broken the bounds of clichéd ways of movie making in indian cinema. And it takes the audience in a completely different setting.

Its about time that indian movie making takes a step forward to embrace a different approach. And for that I thank Mr SLB. It is a visual feast to see such a movie.

Basically it can be summarized that intellectual people who are after quality and attention to detail script would appreciate what saawariya is all about. And those who haven’t got it, will go for same old cliched “masala” movies which are senseless and waste of time!
