It has been a bumper weekend for Bollywood in the UK as two movies make it into the Top 10.
After a bleak few weeks, the Eid weekend has seen Muslims come out in their droves, to watch not one but two movies. Both big releases of the week got huge openings.
Akshay Kumar once again has shown that he is a proven match for Shah Rukh Khan in the land of the anglo-saxons, as Bhool Bhulaiya smashes into the Top 10 at number 7. The film, which also stars Vidya Balan, made $598,341. Showing on 45 screens, its average stood at $13,296… the second highest per screen average.
Rani Mukherjee’s prostitution drama Laga Chunari Mein Daag, was slightly behind, raking in $501,714. Showing on the same amount of screens as Bhool Bhulaiya, it’s per screen average was $11,149… the third highest per screen average of the weekend. It entered the charts at number 8.
Both Bollywood movies were the highest new entries of the week… Black Sheep and the Nicole Kidman starrer The Invasion, came in at 9 and 10 respectively.
