Her thirteenth film ‘No Smoking’ could well bring the box-office success, which the actor has long been waiting for
Anurag Kashyap’s ‘No Smoking’ releases on October 26. Many eyes would also be on the leading lady of the film—Ayesha Takia. This being her 13th film, she could well be hoping for the number to turn lucky for her!
Ever since Ayesha made her debut on the big screen with ‘Tarzan—The Wonder Car’ (2004), box-office success has evaded her.
Ayesha’s next release ‘Dil Maange More’ (2004) just managed to recover costs. Directed by ‘Jab We Met’ director Imtiaz Ali, her ‘Socha Na Tha’ (2005) also made a genuine attempt to fight it out before fading out.
But her act in it was definitely appreciated. Her ‘Home Delivery’ director Sujoy Ghosh says, “She is a good talent waiting to be nurtured.” ‘Shaadi No. 1’ (2005), which came later didn’t quite explore her talent and had her play a sari-clad Barbie. The film barely managed to scrape though and all eyes were set on ‘Home Delivery’ (2005) and ‘Shaadi Se Pehle’ (2006) next. Sujoy asserts, “Ayesha added so much to the character of Jenny. She took it to a different level due to her efforts.”
Naseruddin Shah too cast Ayesha for his directorial debut ‘Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota’ (2006), which again didn’t do well. Though a box-office failure, the critically acclaimed ‘Dor’ (2006), finally managed to create a standing for her as an actor.
Yet again, Ayesha was found waiting for a hit tag and after pinning her hopes on Nikhil Advani’s ‘Salaam E Ishq’ (2007), she ended up being disappointed as the multi-starrer crashed. Later ‘Kya Love Story Hai’ (2007) was a disaster and threatened to take her career two steps back.
Following this, films like ‘Fool N Final’ (2007) and ‘Cash’ (2007) (where she had a guest appearance) were not really the kind to make Ayesha confident of bouncing back. Her presence there was mere eye candy though she would now be hoping to be taken seriously in ‘No Smoking’. This is the 13th release of her career.
The unconventional film, also starring John Abraham, could finally give Ayesha the much delayed success at the box- office. Ayesha is also known to be seeing restaurateur Farhan Azmi.
