After a sabbatical, Aftab Shivdasani’s back with a fresh outlook and a new film writes Shilpa Jamkhandikar
After more than six months of being totally out of the limelight, Aftab Shivdasani is back. And he is raring to go.
“I feel totally rejuvenated, totally refreshed. In fact, I feel like a newcomer. I used this time to get to know myself and took a holiday. That really helped,” Aftab says.
What prompted him to take this sudden change of scene? “Well, to be honest, I didn’t really like the kind of work that was coming my way after ‘Red’ and ‘Speed’. I didn’t want do films just for the sake of it, so I thought I might as well take a break.”
Given that four months is a long time to be off the radar in the fickle film industry, Aftab is confident that he did the right thing. “Now that I am back, I feel like a newcomer all over again. I have a fresh outlook to life, to films, and I am raring to go. I am doing Ganesh Acharya’s ‘Money Hai to Honey Hai’, with Govinda and Manoj Bajpai. I am very excited about it,” he says.
Talking about the future, Aftab is confident that he will not just limit himself to acting. “I do want to venture into production at some point. I feel I am suited to that. I may be young, but I have almost 10 years of experience in this industry,” he says. The ‘Mast’ star is also working in another project with director Sanjay Gupta.
But when you ask him why he hasn’t been seen in Ram Gopal Varma’s films (Aftab debuted with his ‘Mast’) in a long time, he smiles. “I have a very sporadic equation with Ramu. Whenever he calls me, I am always there, but that happens very infrequently. I have featured in his ‘Nishabd’ and in his production ‘Darna Mana Hai’. So it’s not like I haven’t worked for him at all.”
Incidentally, Aftab who was seen as a child actor in ‘Mr India, won recognition with his performances in ‘Kasoor’, ‘Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi’ and ‘Masti’.
