She’s a diva known for being passionately private. Even today (October 9th), her birthday, will be no different. “My mother has taught me that every day is a day of rejoicing, a day of celebration,” says Rekha. “I don’t understand why human beings only celebrate particular days — sometimes in the garb of religion, sometimes birthdays. Every minute and every second is a rebirth for me. I believe that all of us are here for a purpose, to fulfil our duties, our responsibilities and do what we are destined to. Life is truly very short.”
And truly, she has lived her philosophy. “I think I have had more fun and blessings than anybody can fathom, and I am lusting for even more,” she laughs. “I have touched 50 but in my mind I am still 27…no, I am not more than ten years old, to be honest. There is so much more to learn and so much more to share.”
“The other day I met Devsaab at his book launch and I felt that his life is a mirror image of mine. All the bravado and the zest for life that he shows is so like what I aspire for. He is a typical Libran like me. He is a huge inspiration for me, like some others including Zohra Sehgal and Tina Turner. It’s not because of their health or longevity, they are inspiring because of the spirit that they have maintained,” she adds.
