Global activist Renu Mehta is being felicitated by the Public Health Foundation of India for outstanding work in philanthropy through her foundation Fortune Forum.
Keeping yourself grounded despite living in a larger than life environment is exactly what model-cum-fashion heiress-cum philanthropist Renu Mehta has successfully managed to do. Which is why she’s being felicitated by the Public Health Foundation of India in Delhi for her contribution to society this November.
London born and raised, Renu may be a fairly new name for many here in India, but her Fortune Forum is amongst the largest global non-profit making organisations targeting grave social concerns like climate change, global poverty and fatal diseases.
Says Renu about the birth of her charitable self, “After heading the design team at the helm of my family’s fashion house, I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the lack of purpose within my work. So I went ahead and arranged a charity event with some very prestigious names including Eric Clapton and Jools Holland. I managed to raise over a 100 thousand pounds with that one event. That was when I reflected upon creating Fortune Forum that brings together government, charities and high profile individuals to maximize their effectiveness towards global causes.”
Celebrity do-gooders
Personalities like Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Prince Charles, Elizabeth Hurley, Michael Douglas, Bono and Elton John are just a preface to the number of high-profile celebrities who have collabarated with the organisation in the one year it has existed. Evidently, Renu insists that creating a class of ‘celebrity activists’ was purely a conscious effort.
