Few days ago we brought you the story of how the music of Saawariya was not doing as expected in the UK, and today we bring you more on this story… and the reason why Saawariya’s soundtrack hasn’t been appreciated.
In 1987, a young George Michael produced a hit song… Faith. It went on to become a blockbuster. Now, 20 years later, music director Monty Sharma has been ‘inspired’ by that song. The title track of Saawariya sounds very alike Faith… Listen to the hook of the song and you will get what we mean… especially the crooning, “Cause I gotta have faith… faith… faith… faithhhh”.
An industry insider has said, “People are speculating if music director Monty Sharma was inspired by George Michael’s Faith. Even though the verses aren’t similar, the hook and chorus of Saawariya use the vibrato from Faith.”
Talking to Mid-Day, the music director of Saawariya, Monty Sharma has said, “I haven’t heard Faith so I really don’t know where these comparisons are coming from. Each and every song from Saawariya has come from my heart and it’s pure soul and passion,” he says. “I am busy with the background score for the film. I will have to listen to Faith to figure out what people are talking about.”
Defending himself, “It would be cheating and lying to my own self if I had to derive my tunes from other songs. I don’t believe in doing that,” Monty adds.
What are your thoughts… has the title track been lifted from a George Michael song? Leave your thoughts below.
