Sangeeta, a girl from Pune, calls Vidya and informs her that a cop named S P Gupta harasses her sexually. Bogged by excitement, Vidya plans a sting operation to bring out the reality. Unfortunately, DIG Dandekar falls prey to this set up instead of S P Gupta.
Vidya assures Sangeeta that the footage will not be telecasted in the news channels. But things go out of control when her channel telecasts the video in its true form.
Eventually, Vidya decided to fight back and leaves for her uncle (Virendra Saxena) to his press. There, she learns the finer nuances of journalism and decides to get Sangeeta justice.
On the whole, the films showcases three sting operations. Out of which, the second one where the girl is harassed by the cops leads the way of brave direction. The first one where a minister’s daughter is kept under house arrest is plotless. The third one, though sensible, drags the storyline.
The first half of the film is grasping with some good sequences that keep you engrossed but the second half needed to be well edited. The viewer eventually starts waiting for the climax.
Director Vishal Inamdar shows his potential as a fine storyteller. With a little more experience, he should come out with a better grip on handling a script.
The other technical aspects of film making lack the crispness of a good backing. Cinematography is good. Screenplay needed to be tighter. Editing was not effective in the second half of the film.
Acting wise, all the characters shown in the film give a standard performance. Koel Puri is effective as a crime reporter. Vinay Apte plays his role with finesse and so does Harsh Chhaya in his devilish stint as a police officer.
All in all, watch It’s Breaking News for its choice of subject and implementation. It certainly will add up in the list of sensible movies that you have watched.
