JAGJIT SINGH OM CHANTING WITH CELEBS

PREVENTIVE CARDIOLOGY IS BETTER THAN CURE

Om chanting for a healthy heart!

Dil ka dhadakna hi zindagi hai

Dhadkan hi dil ki zinda dili hai

Tum dil pe rakh kar apne haath

Kar lo vaada apne dil ke sath

Dil se dil ka rakhenge khayal

Dil hi to hai dil ki dava

Sun bhi tu le dil jo kahe

Dil bina dil na rahe

-Music composer and singer- Reeg Deb

- Lyrics- Tarvez

With the World Health Organization (WHO) having warned that, by 2010, every 4th Indian is going to be affected by heart disease and by 2015, 60 per cent of World’s cardiac deaths will be contributed by India, Preventive Cardiology is the need of the hour today.

The Institute of Preventive Cardiology (IPC) Foundation, a pioneering NGO under India’s first woman Preventive Cardiologist Dr. Pratiksha organized a Heart Awareness Programme on the eve of World Heart Day.

Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, Dr Soma Ghosh of Benaras Gharana, music maestro Ustad Raza Ali Khan, Ustad Raza Ali Khan of Kasur Patiala Gharana, and the grandson of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saheb and young music director Reeg Deb chanted ‘Om’ to an attentive celeb audience. Models Kapil Khadiwala, Freddie, Priyanka, actors Viraf Patel, Nilima Azim, Pretti Jain, music makers Jojo, Indian Idol favourite Ayesha, North American Indian Idol Shweta, Renowned Astrologer Kamala, DJ Vipin, lyricist Ajay Jhingran among others gathered to chant Om with the audiences and promised to take care of their hearts and avoid heart ailments.

Said Dr. Pratiksha: “IPC Foundation’s mission is to prevent heart attacks and reverse heart disease but also provide a cost effective solution to patients without surgery. More than 5000 patients in India with 80 to 100 per cent blockages, advised to go for Angioplasty and Bypass have been successfully treated through IPC with a success ratio of 90 per cent. Through this program we want to create Good Heart Ambassadors in each and every home to spread this education and awareness.”

Said Jagjit Singh: “Om symbolizes the ‘Anahat Naad’ or the original sound waves of the universe. Om” is the sound of a thoughtless state of mind - a present that is free from all tensions of life - the way to touch the depths of our real selves in its purest form.”

Dr Soma Ghosh felt: “Om chanting helps in directing attention towards inner self and balancing the attention equally between spiritual and worldly affairs, inhalation done in OM chanting gives energy to perform work while exhalation gives relaxation. It also improves concentration of mind and brings positive effect on body, mind and emotions which is very important in today’s fast paced life.”

Added Ustad Raza Ali Khan, “Om chanting is very powerful and the Hari Om bhajan that my grandfather immortalized plays in my mind. The energy of Om is different in the 12 notes and when chanted with sur, cleanses the body, mind and soul and contributes to mental peace.”

Said Reeg Deb: “I have composed a special song for World Heart Day using human heart beats on the backdrop. The message is that we have to take care of our heart by living the right lifestyle. Incase of heart disease prevention is better than cure. And according to the science of Spirituality, chanting the Name of God as per ones religion of birth is the recommended foundation of spiritual practice in the current era i.e. the era of strife that is Kaliyuga.”

Concluded Dr Pratiksha: “OM chanting on this particular day is important as World Heart Day is arguably the most successful, consistent and focused campaign against heart disease and stroke undertaken around the globe to increase public awareness of the threat of heart disease and stroke and the importance of a heart-healthy lifestyle, so that children and adults all over the world, and especially in the developing world, can live better, longer lives with a balanced and peaceful mind.”

IPC offers non-surgical cardiac treatment for the patients who do not wish to undergo bypass surgery or who cannot afford costly invasive surgeries. World Heart Day is celebrated on last Sunday of every September and this year the whole world day is celebrating this day on 30th September 2007 where the theme is ‘Team up for Healthy Heart!’
