The promos of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited ‘Saawariya’ echo his poetic sensibilities with the lines…

“Her world was the wait for love,His was the wait for her love, What echoed was…Saawariya.”

If the 100 second promo of ‘Saawariya’ is any indication, viewers can anticipate yet another visual show coming their way. Arijit Dutta, theatre owner and Vice President Eastern India Motion Pictures Association says, “Not only do the promos look interesting but also raise immense curiosity.”

This seems so because the promos don’t reveal the faces of debutants and star kids Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. Jal Tata, owner of theaters Sterling and Regal says, “The film promises the grandeur of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film.”

Boasting of a typical Bhansali touch from the days of ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and ‘Devdas’, however one can sense a different colour scheme this time with blue and green being the prominent hues.

It is difficult to ascertain the era in which ‘Saawariya’ is set in as the film merges the classical look of India with Europe. If on one end ‘Saawariya’ appears to be a Romeo and Juliet rendezvous, on the other, it seems to be an Indian love story.

Yet another avid viewer says, “Bhansali’s lighting and haunting background score and his use of music can be evident here as well.” The opening shot featuring a Gondola traversing through a river, sounds of ghunghroos as a veiled Sonam walks through a corridor, Ranvir’s dance on stage with a guitar in tow, an umbrella falling in the midst of heavy rains, two lovers running over a river’s brink suggest a rich imagery typical of Sanjay’s films. Film buff Shalini Burman asserts, “I can’t wait for the film to release this Diwali.”
