It should be noted that Chuk De India was a mish-mash of western sports films (The Miricle on Ice, Mighty Ducks, a League of their Own…), and not as original as it seemed in India (Yash Raj gave a copy of the script to the US Academy of Motion Picure Science for its originality. The Academy must be laughing since this is not as original as thought.) Western audiances don’t want to see what they have already seen without any “masala.” Lagaan, Tare Zameen Par are original,have a message, and Partner is simply bollywood. Chuk de is India pretending to make an “original” movie down to basing it around a “real” person (even if only 1% of the facts represent the real life of the person the movie is supposed to be based on)which anyone who is not from India has seen a dozen times in western movies. If you copy a movie, you have to give it something new, like Yes Boss “masalafying” For Love or Money, you can’t give people an inferior version of something that already exists, which was Chuk De India. India as a whole loses with movies like this.

I like your analysis of the Chak De India film blooper, but your assessment of Shahrukh Khan as a fading actor has dropped the ball on your intelligence. If Shahrukh Khan does fall to the end of his career it wont be because of his “third class acting”, for he has dominated the bollywood industry for years. The reason for his downfall, even though it is not likely, is the changing cultural norms of india itself. In the 90’s people would be interested in movies where a couple fell in love and had a conflict, however, these days that has changed. People look for nude scenes, and looks. The way someone looks is so important in the film industry that it makes me sick! There are many great looking actos/actresses that are in Bollywood simply because they look good, but they cant act worth a damn thing! Stay a model not an actor. Why has Ajay Devgan fall off his career, he may not be the best looking guy but he can act most actors right off the stage. shahrukh has many things gong for him, he looks decently attractive and is a very top class actor and his title as King Khan is well deserved. Please think about how society is leading to the downfall of Bollywood, before you attack the greats of all time! Go watch a movie like SHOLAY, it was a hit of the time, if you watch it now its kind of like these guys are retarded. You name a recent movie that has reached the levels of films like Devdas, DDLJ, Koyla. none exist, quality of acting has diminshed, because bollywood is after models and not actors. Thank You!

The OM SHANTI OM will be the biggest hit of the year…overseas as wll. But the point in review is right SRK is no King anymore. It all depends on package(like Karan Johar/Yashraj) script and direction(like Chak De)………..and this is how it should be – I mean not a glossy package but nice story and direction. …………..so it is good that we should not have good starpower —no that filmakers will work more on script and direction.

By the way again it media who says SRK is King….because media is mostly in cities/read by citizens/created by citizes…..if you take headcount Sanjay Dutt/ Sunny Deol/ Mithun will have equal number of fan following in interiors of India. And talking about overseas…its not as if SRK is the first one who has been accepted globally……Raj Kapoor had a greater and geographycally wider impact than him….

First of all Mr.Tony please accept my heartiest congratulations for your excellent article. Very truly you have said that srk has build an image of lover boy and he can’t come out of that. Also as Mr. Rizwan said srk need a good heroin, good banner, good songs and good locations to make a film and he is very wise enough that he chooses the roles like that. In Hindi one saying is that Sach Kadva Hota Hai and that is why these srk fans are using all foul language against Mr. Tony. Mr. Tony very truly u have said that. I ask srk fans to show me any movie of srk which has become hit and which had no songs, no good locations, no big heroine and no big banner and the answer will be none. As far as Amitabh is concerned, somebody pointed that only Angry Young Man role only suited him then for their kind information Black, Baghban, Bunty Aur Bably & Sarkar are hit movies wherein Amitabh is not Angry Young Man and he has won numerous awards for these films at the age of 63. This is my answer to them. If they have any conscious left then they should know themselves. Don’t drag Amitabh to this.

I totall Agree. Excellent Article. Shahrukh is the name of monotony. He is not an actor he is an overactor. He has plenty of limitations. He is first of all an unrealistic actor. I am from somalia but still pakistan are one of the best people i know!Pakistan and india are the reasone for srk succeeding in the overseas!The main reason that this movie flopped in the overseas was cause 1.The word indie(only Chak de would be enough)2.his image do not allow him to act different though his best actings (kabh haan kabhi naa,swades and chak de)he can really act but the audience do not allow him.If he makes a love movie which has the worst script,it still would be hit cause of his image.and everyone knows that if srk is make a love movie and everyone is preparing his money atleast to see the movie twice!So that makes him the most safe actor in the box-office.dont even start to speak about the overseas cause the top 4 movies is(KANK,K3G,Veer-Zaara and Don)
