Mumbai’s respected & talented hair dressers came together on one single platform on Sunday, 5th August 2007, at Infiniti Mall Atrium, with a determination to create and craft as many styles as possible on as many people as possible.
Dilshad Pastakia, Asha Hariharan, Adhuna Bhabani Akhtar, Seema Jerajani, Lata Khanchandani, Ryan D’Rosario, Savio Periera, Aalim Hakim, Sapna Bhavnani, Anees and the other hair stylists took turns to fill up the 24 work-stations created at CUT-A-THON the non-stop hair cutting session, with only one thought in mind – Project Crayons.
The Hair-stylists created Trendy, funky, creative and classic hair cuts on anyone willing to pay a flat fee of Rs.500/- Organised, conceived and executed by HIP- Hair India People – an association of Hairdressers for Hairdressers the event even saw a number of celebrities such as Pooja Bedi, Jimmy Shergill, Kim Sharma, Mini Mathur, Dipanita Sharma, willing to let their favourite hair-stylists, try a new trick or two on them.
Tresses, curls, short hair, straight hair, permed hair, however challenging the hair must have been, this event saw a number of individuals walk into the mall, and leave the work-stations as transformed individuals.
While other hair-stylists took turns at the work-stations created, 2 stylists stood out for non-stop work since the event took off in the morning – Aalim Hakim and Savio Periera, were the darlings of the crowd, and their enthusiasm was unsurpassable. Savio says”I did it all for the children at Project Crayons”
All the money collected was donated to Project Crayons- (Child Rehabilitation & Youth Oriented Nationwide Services) working for the upliftment of the underprivileged and physically challenged orphan children. (Details can be obtained from their website – www.projectcrayons.org)
Noted social-Activist and Actress Shabana Azmi, handed over a cheque of the day’s collection, through hair-cuts and games that were organized to Project Crayons at 9pm.
Adhuna Bhabani Akhtar and Asha Hariharan spoke for Hair India People and the reason behind this charity event. “HIP”, they say “is of the firm opinion that we would like to do our best to create awareness about children who are marginalized because of poverty, disability, or gender.
HIP would like to give these children the right to basic care, education & security and hence our association – Hair India People is supporting Project Crayon as they are committed to this cause”.
