He had a loving and caring mother in Nargis until she left him a few weeks before the release of his acting debut Rocky, which went on to become a superhit. The pain of losing his mother pushed Sanjay Dutt into the inconscious arena of drugs.
Sanju himself admitted, “I saw my father struggling, and my mother struggled to survive. And she went through a major surgery. We saw how she was. I was big enough to realise and then came my drugs phase…”

Sanjay was arrested on the 19th of April, 1993. This marked the end of a youthful Sanju. Thereafter, he spent 18 months of his life as a thoughtful man behind the bars.

With Shiv Sena activists leading the protests against him, it took the head of the political party, Bal Thackeray to calm things down.
