Movie Review: Toh Baat Pakki (2010) starring Tabu, Sharman Joshi

Rajeshwari (Tabu) is a married woman who believes in arranged marriages. She tries to get her sister Nisha married to a guy in their village and Rahul (Sharman Joshi) happens to be her pick, but unfortunately he doesn’t believe in marriage.

Rajeshwari comes an elaborate plan to get Nisha and Rahul to like each other, but in every plan there has to be comedic consequences! Initially Rahul and Nisha begin to have some chemistry. The twist begins when a business man comes to town and also wants to marry Nisha. Rahul is a sweetheart but a businessman, Yuvraj, with a steady job is also attractive. Who will Tabu choose for her sister Nisha, and who will Nisha end up with?

Tabu: She is the sole center of the film! Tabu is the one who plays the most pivotal role in setting up her sister’s marriage, her performance adds plenty of comedy and fun to this film.

The story is predictable and the dialogue is quite unoriginal making this film quite a bore. The music, as fun as it is in the car, did not leave such an impact in the film.

“Toh Baat Paaki” is a soundtrack with heavy Punjabi influences; with Punjabi vocalists and Bhangra beats, we get it all. The soundtrack also has some great love ballads to tell the love stories that blossom within the plot.

Tabu’s appearances in Bollywood are quite limited, for her fans ‘Toh Baat Pakki’ is quite a treat. Tabu doesn’t portray any moving or deep character, but seeing her in a more lighthearted role is fun. ‘Toh Baat Pakki’ is meant to be a funny, family movie and we recommend it for a fun night in.
