EXCLUSIVE REVIEW BY HANUMANT BHANSALI
Post Gadar- Ek Prem Katha, the director Anil Sharma once again brings another epic love story glued with the saga of the brave warrior Veer. From the trailers, the movie promised monumental canvas, classic action, death- defying stunts and refined stars with best of the performances. And the expectations from the unexpected superstar Salman Khan raised even higher post Wanted. And does the Veer holds true to your expectations? The answer is 60-40 i.e. 60% yes and 40% it disappoints the viewers.
From the pages of history comes the story of a brave warrior and a charming lover named Veer (Salman Khan). It is the story when India was ruled by the White’s and the people were ill-treated. The British in the past brought in the Divide and Rule policy, dented the unity amongst the people and enslaved them.
Indians had lost their hopes and were completely disabled, finding no way out of the situation. Except for the brave troop named Pindaris- the fearless and the valiant, who would go to any extent to save their country’s pride. Veer is one of the soldiers from the same group named Pindaris, the strongest, toughest, bravest and absolutely fearless of all.
In mid of all the drama and heroism, Veer falls in love with the princess Yashodhara, the daughter of one of his arch enemies. Thus from country’s pride to his love for the princess, Veer has to battle them all and win the adversary.
On the positive side the movie has huge canvas, mind blowing sets, superb action and perfect star- Salman Khan. The lyrics by Gulzaar are perpetual accompanied by Sajid-Wajid’s splendid as well as till date the best composition and the impact on screen is marvellous and a treat for the viewers to watch. Monty’s background music is awesome and raises the standard of the film. The cinematography by Gopal Shah is impressive. And above all what makes the movie special and larger than life is Tinu Verma’s well directed action sequences.
However on the negative side falls the most shocking thing is Anil Sharma’s loose direction. Unexpectedly the ace director leaves many gaps, without which the movie could have been a blockbuster and breathtaking. Moreover the next thing to be blamed the most is the story and immature screenplay. The story fails to make an impact as promised and disappoints the viewers especially Salman – Zarine love sequences that many a times look unreal.
Talking about the performances and acting words fall short for the actor Salman Khan. The actors energy throughout the movie is undying, his looks killing and his impact hard-hitting. He proves again that he has still got the charm and the power to carry the whole movie behind his back single handed. Mithun Chakrabothy in his own style is impressive, Jackie Shroff is okay but Sohail Khan is unbearable. However the biggest disappointment comes from the actress Zarine Khan who is expressionless throughout the movie.
On the whole it is just an above average flick; blame it on the director and the writer. However Salman Khan’s act and Tinu Verma’s direction of action sequences makes the viewers journey pleasant and proves to be a paisa vasool.
