All is not well between Sameer Soni and Neelam Kothari. The industry is abuzz with news about the couple calling off their relationship.
A source close to the couple says, “It is unfortunate that Neelam and Sameer could not sustain their relationship. They have taken a step back as a couple. It’s a mature and a conscious decision taken without any animosity.”
Our source adds, “One thought that they were ready to take their relationship to the next level. Just a few days ago, Sameer had declared his love for Neelam publicly. This happened during Sameer’s birthday party that was held at an upscale restaurant in Juhu. When the party was in full swing, Sameer was in high spirits, and suddenly Sameer announced loudly, ‘Neelam, I love you very much! I just don’t know how to define our relationship.’ Neelam was red with embarrassment. She didn’t know where to look. But she took it sportingly and managed to smile.”
So what led to issues between the couple? Did Sameer’s public display of affection put off Neelam to such an extent that she decided to end their relationship, we wonder. For, after Sameer’s party, Neelam and Sameer never made any public appearances together. While Neelam was seen in the party circuit, Sameer chose to stay away.
Our source reveals, “That’s not the reason. Neelam was okay after Sameer’s PDA. She knows how Sameer feels about her. However, Neelam was a wary of plunging into the commitment, while Sameer wanted the relationship to go at a faster pace. Perhaps they were just not meant to be together.”
Both Neelam, who is now a jewellery designer and Sameer, who will next be seen as a director in Karan Johar’s I Hate Love Stories, have faced rough weather in their personal lives. In October 2000, Neelam married London-based Rishi Sethia, son of industrialist Nirmal Sethia, only to separate legally shortly. Before her marriage, she dated Bobby Deol. Sameer, too, had a short-lived marriage with model Rajlakshmi Khanvilkar (who is now married to actor Rahul Roy). Later, he dated model Nafisa Joseph.
