J. P. Dutta’s magnum opus is all set for release later this week and already its death-bed is being prepared, as industry insiders predict a Box Office disaster in the beckoning.

With Don already creating waves at the theatres, and same week release Jaan-E-Mann also being admired, there really doesn’t seem to be much space for Umrao Jaan. The film has suffered with bleak promotion and many people are not even aware of its coming release. The theme of the film is another obstacle point to its success, as the modern day audience wants action, thrills, comedy and masala, Umrao Jaan has none of this, and primarily rests on being a 50% love story and the rest a tragedy.

The film was initially to be released on the same day as Don and Jaan-E-Mann, but Dutta decided against that.

Umrao Jaan is a lavish update of a steller novel and is being brought to the big screen by this veteran director. Dutta is most famous for hi war epic flick Border, starring the whose who of Bollywood, which went onto become a massive blockbuster.

The original Umrao Jaan starred Rekha in the lead role and performed as an above average hit at the theatres. The 2006 remake sees Aishwarya Rai in that same role, with the supporting cast consisting of Abhishek Bachchan and Suniel Shetty.

What are your thoughts on Umrao Jaan… will you be going to see the film at the cinema… are you looking forward to it… or will you give it a miss? Does the theme of the film entice you or is it a little too gory for you?
