Star icon of Indian cinema Amitabh Bachchan has renounced his status as a farmer. He has surrendered the land acquired in Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh and Pune.

Amitabh Bachchan wrote to the chief minister of Maharashtra, Vilasrao Deshmukh, to donate away the lands acquired by him and his son Abhishek.

The move is a result of the controversies and the stand taken by UP government faulting the transfer of land to Bachchan.
