Controversies, whether fair or unfair, are invariably exciting, always. In fact I reckon that they are the spice of our lives, add glamour and style to show biz specially!

Every body wants success. And the only fields where success comes with stardom and money are show biz, sports and to some extent politics (I must be joking…. there’s a hell lot of more money in politics certainly!).

And that’s why every artiste wants to make it in showbiz and the only place which has a magical spell to make your dreams come true overnight, for a south Asian native, is Bombay, India! Although films and music are made and marketed in other parts of Asia too but nothing can match the style, fan following and popularity of Indian stars!

And where do the stars make money? The bulk of their money comes from stage shows and performances! Inside the country and abroad! And where all do Indians perform abroad? Well, wherever there are people who follow Indian movies, TV’s and music. America, Europe, Middle East, Australia, Fiji, Africa, Caribbean. Everywhere! Indian artistes are welcome everywhere, so they are everywhere.

But the best part is that Indians have been unrestricted to a stream of artistes from different countries. Whether they were from Pakistan or Bangladesh or Britain, they all came here, were applauded for their art and talent and went back to their countries with a smiling face and filled pockets! Which is completely agreed! At every age, in every country, giving patronages to art and artistes was considered inevitable for the growth, grooming and beautification of the society in totality.

But here is the issue! Is it the obligation of only one society or country to patronize artistes? Isn’t it the moral and social duty of one country to also facilitate the artistes of the homologous country, which has diligently supported and encouraged their artistes from time to time? Talking about Pakistan, a Pakistani friend of mine once said that Indian stars enjoy more fan following in Pakistan than their own country! Which is a truth since art knows no boundaries. If I love Mehdi Hassen, nobody can stop me from doing so, although he is a Pakistani! But then I really wish Indian stars could enjoy Pakistani fans in Pakistan too, like Pakistani stars enjoy Indian admirers in India! The only time I come across Pakistani admirers is when I am abroad, and believe you me, the appreciation and regards you get from them, spoils you, makes you crave for more!

Thus Abhijeet questioning this imbalance and raising this issue cannot be totally denounced. Although targeting Adnan and others may not be in good taste but then everyone has his own way of retaliating and agitating, he is an extremely up-front kind of a person, and knowing him personally, this is his way of expressing his hurt!

As for Adnan, all I can do is just express my solidarity to him as an artiste, for he is a commendable musician and has all the right to fame and success, as all others have, and hope he can someday prove his solidarity for the country that has given him all, name, fame, money and above all artistic satisfaction, something every artist yearns for!

Hoping instead of getting personal, this controversy takes a constructive shape in bringing together the intellectuals of both the nations and resolve this issue amicably without hurting anyone’s feeling and sentiments!

And lastly one secret…although not too many artistes are coming forward in accordance to what Abhijeet has to say but personally, after discussing this issue with a lot of them, I concluded that all of them share the same grievance, some aggressive, some complaisant, yet some hopeful like me!
