Movie Review: Shadow

Producer: Great Entertainments

Director: Rohit Nayyer

Cast: Naseer Khan, Milind Soman, Sonali Kulkarni and Hrishitaa Bhatt

Music: Anand Raj Anand

Just imagine, a blind man dolling up with the dangerous and death-defying stunts. It really deserves huge applause. Hats off to the determination, strength of will and courage of the man named Naseer Khan, the main protagonist of the film.

The writing seems to take the back seat in the flick since it shows only the heroic abilities of the leading protagonist. The script is like 70s and 80s masala films. But the writers forgot while penning down the screenplay that the viewers’ minds and liking have changed now. The story like this used to be loved at that time but in today’s time, it cannot make home in cinegoer’s heart. And at the same time, you cannot take your eyes off the fact that there exists small chunk of the viewers who still love to watch these types of movies. And ‘Shadow’ is for them.

The film talks about a serial murder case, which the police have not been able to track. Arjun Sherawat (Naseer Khan) is unseen and the criminal. There is no one who knows his identity. This case has now been given to Sanjana (Sonali Kulkarni), who is a police officer. She too tries harder but all her efforts go astray.

Sheetal (Hrishitaa Bhatt) is a press reporter. She loves her profession dearly. She is attached to a news channel and from this source, she comes to know about this case. Rahul (Milind Soman), he is a press reporter too, but works in some other news channel. He has also been following this case like Sheetal. He constantly keeps asking Sanjana about the case. At short intervals, murders continue to happen. Amidst all, Sheetal passes a crucial information to police about the next target of Arjun Sherawat. But before he does so, he meets with an accident and is presumed dead. Listening it, everyone becomes happy until all hear Arjun’s latest audio clip that tells he will kidnap a famous builder Habeeb Faizal (Mushtaq Khan) in front of the police on a given date. On hearing it, everyone is stunned. And on the given date, he succeeds in kidnapping Habeeb. What follows next forms the rest of the story.

The writers have just focused on displaying the heroic abilities of the protagonist. Thus there emerges a vacuum in the screenplay. The first half does catch your attention but the second half appears to be dull utterly. The climax is not convincing.

Stunts have been done with brilliance. The direction by Raohit Nayyer is okay but not much appealing. Just some sequences hold your attention. Cinematography is great. Anand Raj Anand’s music is a big letdown. Just one song needs a mention and that is ‘Masti’.

Naseer Khan is not an actor, this all know. Milind Soman does a fine job. Sonali Kulkarni looks over-weight but delivers a good job. She does an item number in the movie. Wonder, what was the need behind to do so? Hrishitaa Bhatt is just about okay. Sachin Khedekar enacts the job with finesse. Vishwajeet Pradhan and Mushtaq Khan are splendid in their respective parts. Rest of the cast is average.

On the whole, ‘Shadow’ has been targeted to the hardcore audience.

RS Rating: 1.5/5
