Two new shows in September on ZEE TV
Published by  BizAsia.co.uk  at 08:08:23 pm on August 16, 2009

‘Jhansi Ki Rani’ to start on ZEE TVZEE TV will launch two new shows in the first week of September in a further effort to ramp up its ratings and reclaim the top spot in India.

Starting Monday 7th September, ZEE TV UK viewers will see the launch of Delhi based show ‘12/24 Karol Bagh’ and huge costume drama ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’.

‘12/24 Karol Bagh’ will replace ‘Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann’ in the Monday to Thursday 21:30 band. The drama comes to an end on Wednesday 2nd September.

The story of ‘12/24 Karol Bagh’ is based on a middle class family residing in Delhi. Hunar Ali who was last seen in Colors’ ‘Koi Aane Ko Hai’ with Raj Singh Arora will be playing the lead in the show. She plays the eldest daughter of the family who has a bold, happy-go-lucky character, who is very protective about her two sisters. This will be the first television show purely based on the life of Delhites.

The second new offering on ZEE TV UK will be ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’, which takes over the former ‘Maayka’ Monday to Thursday 22:00 slot. Produced by Contiloe Films, the show is based on the life of Rani Lakshmi Bai, an ordinary girl who went on to become an extraordinary ruler and one of the leading warriors of India’s first war of independence in 1857.

While the producers haven’t explicitly spoken of the show’s budget, the fact that they have set up lavish sets and shot in three different states – Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, is indicative of the sort of the several millions spent in its making.

“We wanted to showcase the spirit of Rani Lakshmi Bai to celebrate 150 years of the war of independence as well to commemorate her death. It was her 150th death anniversary last year. So we thought of enlivening consciousness about her,” said Nitin Vaidya, business head of the channel.

The starcast, which includes 13-year-old Ulka Gupta and veteran actress Aruna Irani, is another plus point for the show. Ulka, who was earlier seen in shows like ‘Resham Dankh’ and ‘Saat Phere’, exudes confidence to match the valour of young ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’.
