Movie Review: Life Partner

Director: Rummy Jaffery

Cast: Govinda, Fardeen Khan, Tusshar Kapoor, Genelia D’ Souza and Prachi Desai

Music: Pritam

Fardeen Khan, Govinda, Tusshar Kapoor, Prachi Desai and Genelia D’ Souza starrer Life Partner is what which buzz is clearly missing. So the viewer does not have any clue what he/she is going to watch in theater. Anyway suspicions aside, Life Partner is director Rumi Jaffery’s entertaining and interesting outing. From the appearance, it seems as if it is a nonsensical comedy but in actual it’s not rather a family film.

‘Life Partner’ peeks into the lives of two couples – one who believes in love marriage and the other who believes in arranged marriage. While you stay with the film, you get surprised as the director incorporates vignettes from real life.

‘ Life Partner’ entertains you in full and sends laughs on your face. You get hooked all through. The climax is what that appears as a wet blanket. It’s obvious that the film carries no buzz at all nonetheless it appears to be a pleasant journey for you. When you leave the hall, a smile stays on your face.

Karan (Fardeen Khan) and Sanjana (Genelia D’Souza) are crazily in love with each other. Now to strengthen their love bond, next step is marriage. But is ‘love marriage’ the right way to be?

For Bhavesh [Tusshar Kapoor], his Life Partner, Prachi [Prachi Desai], comes with the approval of his family. But is ‘arranged marriage’ the way forward? Does it appear right to prioritize family over marriage? Does Prachi have to prove herself as a worthy daughter-in-law to qualify as an ideal wife?

Jeet (Govinda) is a proficient divorce lawyer. He is the one who does not believe in the institution of marriage. He is often held responsible for his getting his clients divorced. But is ‘no marriage’ a right policy for him? Will he even find a partner in life?

The film tells the story of three protagonists, who struggle on marital race but they all are on different routes. The movie has a simple story executed in a simplistic manner on screen. The director comes to the point in the very beginning. He does not create any problems for the viewers to absorb and understand the goings-on. All characters are vivid in front of the cinegoer.

The funny incidents take place in the movie but in the initial reels. At the interval, the movie turns serious. The interval is laced with a shocking element that you start yearning for the second half. The post interval portion becomes more real when the two marriages land into a crisis. This all is showcased on the celluloid very skillfully.

The climax is a disappointment since the writer should have come up with some other upshot than the one that is depicted in the film.

Rumy Jaffery impresses with the direction. Yunus Sajawal’s script is good. Niranjan Iyengar’s dialogues appear worthy. Cinematography by Sameer Arya is great. The locations of South Africa are really heart-hitting. Pritam’s music is just about okay. There is nothing to rave about.

Govinda shows his tremendous class in this film. He expresses through his acting that he is still as brilliant as he was in his heydays. Fardeen Khan portrays the role with aplomb. Tusshar Kapoor bats well on the pitch. Wonderfully he acts his part. Genelia D’ Souza is really fantastic actress. She steals the show with her performance and beauty. Prachi Desai excels well in her part. Amrita Rao in a special appearance is okay. Anupam Kher is average. Drashan Jariwala is first-rate. Rest of the cast fills the bill also.

On the whole, ‘Life Partner’ has potential to hit the hearts of the people. It’s a good entertainer. Go and watch it.

Rating: 3/5
