UTV Motion Pictures presentation and Ram Gopal Verma’s directed Agyaat is out now. Apparently it looks like a horror film but in actual it is not a scary outing rather an adventure thriller that makes you travel it along. Thrillers of this kind have been witnessed many a time in Hollywood and even in Bollywood, but it looks different. For a movie to be successful at the box office, it is essential that it should grab the viewer’s attention fully and develop an interest quotient within the moviegoer. And this ‘Agyaat’ does utterly.
The film works for many factors like the brilliantly done background score (it is of international standards), the movements of camera, the direction and to name a few. When you start your journey along it, you will never leave it midway. Apart from the praises of the film, it has its share of flaws like the culmination, which does not justify the matter.
For a film shooting, a unit arrives in a deep dense forest. Where they land is a place that has minimal facilities available and it is run by a strange and a quirky man called Setu (Joy Fernandes). Sharman (Gautam Rode), who is the hero of the movie, happens to be an utterly self-obsessed man with no other concern except for his muscles and the leady gal, Aasha (Priyanka Kothari). The unit comprises of the director (Howard Rosemeyer), producer (Ishrat Ali), the superstar’s spot boy (Ishteyak), cinematographer (Kali Prasad Mukherjee), action director (Ravi Kale), second assistant (Rasika Duggal) and an assistant director (Nitin Reddy). The entire unit is waiting for a replacement, which takes two days to arrive at the location so they do not have any kind of entertainment. Thus when Setu suggests a camping trip into the deep forest, all of them simply jump at the opportunity. As they settle near a pond for the night, Setu hears a strange sound. He goes to investigate and never returns. After a desperate search, they discover his dead body. Seeing this, a panic situation lands on the unit members and they all jump into the vehicle. But they are unfamiliar with the routes of jungle. Only Setu knows the way to go out of the forest but he is dead. What happens next is the mystery….!
In most of Ram Gopal Verma’s films, he comes to the point at the beginning but in this outing, it never happens, as he takes time to introduce the characters and then mystery develops. First half is very interesting and binds you fully. The two murders, happen before the interval, are well executed. Post interval portion rests on a very thin plot. The adventure portion oozes out in it. Murders take place but no blood or gore.
Screenplay is well written that keeps you interest level alive all through. Nilesh Girkar and Puneet Gandhi deserve good marks for writing the script. But they have not done well with the culmination and that is the main flaw of the film. Dwarak Warrier designs the sounds beautifully as per the international standards. Amar Mohile’s background score is first rate. Surjodeep Ghosh dolls up brilliant cinematography. Ram Gopal Verma experiments this time again, as he has been doing so with his every movie and he succeeds in it.
Nitin Reddy, a Telgu film actor, makes a debut in Bollywood with this film. He justifies the role wit aplomb. Priyanka Kothari improves her acting skills in this flick. Gautam Rode is superb. Rest of the cast enacts well also.
On the whole, Agyaat will see good business at the box office. A good thriller to watch!
