Eros International’s Love Aaj Kal is among the Top 10 all time Hindi film opening weekend grosser in the UK, whereas in the US its opening is among the Top 15.
The movie has grossed over Rs 150 million (Rs 15 crore) in the overseas and is the 13th highest opening weekend grosser of all time for a Hindi film in the US with $900,000.
The top three opening weekend grossers in the US are: Om Shanti Om ($1.76 million), followed by Ghajini ($1.39 million) and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna ($1.35 million).
Eros International president USA Ken Naz said, “Love Aaj Kal has taken a record opening in the US. The reports coming are simply mind-blowing. Locations were sold out well in advance for the evening shows with thousands going back.”
On the other hand, in the UK Love Aaj Kal is the ninth highest opening weekend grosser of all time for a Hindi film with £410,000. The top spot for the same is taken by Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, which grossed £750,000 in its opening weekend.
Eros International president – distribution – Europe & Africa Pranab Kapadia said, “Love Aaj Kal has proven to be a resounding success with never before seen response to a Hindi film overseas with the film enjoying an all time high record opening in the UK of over £410,000 easily surpassing previous records for the weekend.”
Australia collections of Love Aaj Kal stand at $205,821 (Australian dollar). In Pakistan, Love Aaj Kal grossed Rs 10.5 million (Pakistani Rupees) for 211 shows over the weekend.
Love Aaj Kal is directed by Imtiaz Ali and stars Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. It was released across 1800 plus screens worldwide on 31 July 2009.
