Akshaye Khanna’s role as Harilal, Gandhi’s son in ‘Gandhi My Father’, is said to be a role of a lifetime. In fact, those who have managed to catch the actor in the film are raving about his stellar performance. But not many know that Aamir Khan was very keen to play Harilal!
According to sources, when veteran stage director Feroz Khan planned to make ‘Gandhi, My Father’ based on Harilal’s life, Aamir was the first to jump at the opportunity. He is said to have approached Khan with the offer of producing and directing the movie and also playing the lead role. However, Aamir was unaware that Yashraj Films had already approached Feroz with the offer of producing the film.
Says a source, “Aamir was taken in by the dramatic nature of the story. He was fascinated by Harilal’s character and the shades that it has. He not only wanted to play Harilal, but also wanted to produce and possibly direct the movie!”
