Movie Review: Sankat City
Producer: Moserbaer and Seven Entertainment
Director: Pankaj Advani
Cast: KK Menon, Anupam Kher, Rimi Sen, Rahul Dev, Dilip Prabhawalkar and Yashpal Sharma.

Sankat City hits the screens today. Although the film is not laced with the biggies of the trade, does not have a lavish canvas and is not a big-budgeted venture nonetheless it is appealing from all angles. If you are going to skip it due to the factor that there is no big star in the movie, then don’t do this at all since it deserves to be watched. It’s a paisa vasul flick.

Comedies have been churned out on the platform of Bollywood since the outset. But there are few, which realy touch your heart and you love to give them a repeat watch. Some comdies, which are brain-less, nonetheless they work because they have entertainment quotient in full. Some are called intelligent comedies and these are the ones, which are made with special care and healthy script where you do not have to put your mind cap aside to watch. Sankat City is amongst those few. Debuntane director Pankaj Advani executes the flick with aplomb. He makes the viewer sit and watch till the final reel.

Guru (KK Menon) happens to be a small time car thief. Ganpat (Dilip Prabhawalkar) is his partner in all his criminal activities. Ganpat owns a a dilapidated garage. Guru wacks cars and Ganpat (Dilip Prabhawalkar) gives them a make-over in order to sell them for tidy profits. One night, Guru gets a chance to steal the swanky Mercedes car parked outside a brothel unattended. He steals it and takes it to Ganpat. While they both are working on the car, they find a big amount Rs. 1 crore in the boot. Their joys do not see any boundaries now and they begin to weave the dreams. Little do they know what lays in store – for the car and the money belongs to a vicious gangster/loan shark called Faujdaar (Anupam Kher)! Guru’s plans bounce back when he takes this car to sell to Suleman Suapri (Rahul Dev), who is a hitman. Suleman recognizes the car and then notifies Faujdaar. Scared for his life, Guru squeals that the moolah is in Ganpat’s garage. Now Faujdaar sends his men with Guru to recover the cash (Rs. 1 crore). Ganpat, who does not know as to what is happening with Guru, has hidden the money in a safe place in his garage since he thinks that someone might rob if off. By the time henchman – Lovely and Guru reach the garage, Ganpat faces an accident that results in a temporary loss of memory.

Now the problem arises, as Guru does not know where Ganpat has hidden the money. The unforgiving Faudaar decides to bump off Guru, who pleads Faudaar for his life and wants him to give him a chance. He just gives him 3 days. With no hope in hand, Guru starts seeing his death from the hands of Faujdaar. Soon he bumps into Mona (Rimi Sen), a con woman who had once teamed up with him for some crime a few years back. Guru hesitantly joins hands with her. What happens next, as to how Guru succeeds in knowing the whereabouts of money and how he tackles Faujdaar is what forms the rest of the story!

The first half of the movie is a joy ride. The second portion of the flick is brilliant too but lacks somewhere because the flick stagnates and becomes droning for a few moments before the climax arrives.

The script is great that entertains the moviegoer utterly. The direction is first-rate. The cinematography is brilliant. Editing is crispy.

Anupam Kher is brilliant in his role. Kay Kay Menon is fantastic. Rimi Sen looks gorgeous and enacts well. Chunky Pandey is luminous.. Yashpal Sharma does the act well. Rest of the cast fills the bill also.

On the whole, Sankat City is a brilliantly made venture that entertains you fully and deserves to be watched. Don’t miss it.
