Movie Review: Morning Walk
Director: Arup Dutta
Cast: Anupam Kher, Sharmila Tagore, Divya Dutta, Rajat Kapoor, Nargis, Shayan Munshi and Avika Gor
Music: Jeet Ganguli
Director Arup Dutta’s low profile flick, ‘Morning Walk’ is out today starring the likes of Anupam Kher, Sharmila Tagore, Divya Dutta, Rajat Kapoor, Nargis, Shayan Munshi and Avika Gor. There has not been any publicity witnessed and this surely affects the film at the ticketing window. But the major factor that spoils the movie is the plot because the viewer witness many sub plots in the film.
From the appearance, the movie seems to be focused only on the senior citizens but in actual, nothing of this sort happens rather the director takes the viewers to watch many sub plots, which disturbs the audience for sure.
The script seems to be confused all the way. It would have been better, had the writer and the director of the film put the focus only on the senior citizens. This way, the emotional quotient would have been live and caught the attention of the viewers in one direction. First you see the bahu (daughter in law) verus Susar (father in law) story and then all of a sudden the focus comes on the young lovers and then again on the seniors and their lives. The film follows the lines of Baghban but sadly fails to register any impact. In short, it’s a poor show altogether.
One morning walk changes all in Joymohan’s (Anupam Kher) life after he suffers a heart attack. He begins to think that he should spend most of his time with his family members – his son (Rajat Kapoor), bahu/daughter in law (Divya Dutta) and grand-daughter (Avika Gor). During the morning walk, he bumps into once upon a time student cum friend Neelima (Sharmila Tagore), who is a mother of two, who has some strange turth. Her beautiful daughter Anjali (Nargis) wants to do a doctorate from the U.S. and is utterly encourged by her mother and boyfriend Ajay (Shayan Munhsi), who is an upcoming singer and can do anything to spread a smile on her girlfriend’s face.
The movie is a saga of two families, who are quite different to each other nonetheless connected through a special bond.
As mentioned earlier, the script is mundane that becomes the big flaw of the film. The direction is below average as well. Jeet Ganguli’s music is appealing and hummable.
Anupam Kher does brilliant. Sharmila Tagore is great to watch. Rajat Kapoor shows his class. Divya Dutta impresses. Nargis is okay. Shayan Munshi is fine. Rest of the cast is average.
On the whole, Morning Walk is a weak show from all respects.
