Music Review: Kaminey
Director: Vishal Bhardwaj
Cast: Shahid Kapur, Priyanka Chopra, Amol Gupte, Patrícia Bull, Carlos Paca, Eric Santos, Shivkumar Subramaniam, Welkett
Music: Vishal Bhardwaj
Shahid Kapoor’s Kaminey is what every moviegoer is waiting very anxiously. Due to his avatars and the storyline, the movie is churning out headlines. Shahid is desperate to have a hit. And Priyanka wants it to be at the number one slot since she has two hits lately and this hit will drag her to number one position. Vishal Bhardwaj’s films are critically acclaimed and get higher ratings. His career graph as a filmmaker has been good so the expectations are positive. The music of the movie is out, which has been composed by none other than Vishal himself. Let’s check it out.
1): Dhan Tana (Sukhwinder Singh and Vishal Dadlani)
The soundtrack ooze out with the track, ‘Dhan Tana’ sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Vishal Dadlani. The number has been running on channels since the day when the first promo of the movie went on air. The rustic flavor of the song provides a good feel. Sukhwinder raises this feel with much oomph whereas Vishal presents the elements of high-octane rock in an absolute catchy manner. The lyrics have been written creatively and the composition is a class. Go for it time and again.
Rating: 9/10
2): Dhan Tana – Remix
The remix version goes well like the original. The listener would love to stay with it.
Rating: 8.5/10
3): Pehli Baar Mohabbat (Mohit Chauhan)
Now the turn of Mohit Chauhan, who sings this love ballad, ‘Pehli Baar Mohabbat’ with magical voice. The singer is potentially superb and Vishal knows his skills. Bhardawaj takes Mohit’s expertise out of him brilliantly. The lyrics are great. Music is spongy. You love to press the repeat button.
Rating: 8/10
4): Raat Ke Dhai Baje (Suresh Wadikar, Rekha Bhardwaj, Sunidhi Chauhan and Kunal Ganjawala)
The next track features the luminous vocalists of the trade – Suresh Wadikar and Rekha Bhardwaj from classical background and Sundhi Chauhan and Kunal Ganjawala from the commercial songs’ background. All display the histrionics and spell magic with the renditions. The lyrics are apt to the mood and the composition raises the spirits.
Rating: 8/10
5): Raat Ke Dhai Baje – Remix
The remis version attracts the ears also since it is laced with the fusion of rap, pop and classical.
Rating: 7/10
6): Fatak (Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Kher)
Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Kher team up for a song, ‘Fatak’. A situational track, it stars the adroit vocals of the luminous singers. Both boil the blood in veins with the renditions. The fast tempo sends chill through the bodies. The lyrics and music both are well maintained.
Rating: 8/10
7): Kaminey (Vishal Bhardwaj)
The title song comes next and is sung by none other than Vishal himself. It’s not a fast paced or brash kind of song rather is a slow and mellow number. Vishal’s class is vivid in this song from his singing to his music. Lyrics are worthy to rave about. Listen it again.
Rating: 8.5/10
8): Go Charlie Theme
The tune of Dhan Tana is reworked in Go Charlie Theme. A two minutes piece of music, it will let you raise the volume to high.
Rating: 8/10
Conclusion:
Like Vishal’s Omkara, this one would be another big hit album. And it can also be called one of the finest soundtracks of 2009 to date. Grab it.
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
