The Bollywood industry has spoken of its grief at the death of US popstar Michael Jackson at the age of 50.
Actor Sanjay Dutt revealed that he had been shocked to hear the news, which he described as “really sad”.
“I have never seen an artist with so much talent. I saw him at a show in New York and Bombay too. I was sitting in the VIP section but I was at a distance. He was a great performer and a super entertainer,” Dutt said.
Director Anurag Basu said that Jackson’s death heralded the “end of an era”, while singer Shankar Mahadevan credited him with making the music industry “think differently” with the release of Thriller.
Farah Khan told reporters that she had been inspired by Jackson’s dancing and watched his videos intently while teaching herself how to move.
“He was the real reason why I wanted to become a choreographer,” she said. “What I am today is because I saw his video ‘Thriller’. It was at that moment that I wanted to take up dancing as a profession.”
