Movie Review: Karma – Crime, Passion, Reincarnation

Producer: Vivek Singhania

Director: M. R. Shahjahan

Cast: Alma Saraci, Galluci Veyant, Caludia and Vijayendra Ghatge)

karma ‘Karma – Crime, Passion, Reincarnation’, the movie that has been in news due to the German model Claudia, who is enacting in this flick, is finally out today. The flick is no novel at all. It reminds you of the yesteryears movie, ‘Kudrat’ starring Rajesh Khanna, Raj Kumar, Vinod Khanna and Hema Malini.

The film begins with power and raises your interest level. But later once the story develops, it does not hold your attention at all. It appeals you in parts.

Vikram (Carlucci Veyant), estranged and separated from his father Ranvir (Vijayendra Ghatge), for the past thirty years, goes to visit him in Ooty with his better half Anna (Alma Saraci) from New York at her persistence but just for a day or two. The moment Anna gets off the train and puts her feet on the small town’s land, she begins to collect the memories of the murder that took place at this place thirty years ago though she never had visited this place earlier. She finds herself familiar with the place, surroundings and some people too.

Now the nightmares ooze out frequently and later develop with more specificity. In the beginning, Vik does not approve of Anna’s nightmares and the events of the past that she tells to him and tags it all a psychological problem. But when some strange things and inexplicable events take place with him, he apologies to wife. Now Vik is with Anna and tries to resolve the issue. It becomes clear that the murder has taken place in this area thirty years ago. Now together they both moor the belts to solve this mystery.

Linda’s spirit (Claudia Ciesla) was raped and murdered thirty years back. Now she is reincarnated as Anna in today’s time. It leads both Anna and Vik to discover the identity of the killer.

The director seems lacking in handling the sequences on the celluloid but yes he has done well with some sequences with aplomb. The ones, with Anna are impressive and the eerie atmosphere has been created skillfully. The climax is not interesting at all and looks mundane.

Since it’s a thriller, so it must be packed with the suspense element alive throughout in particular till the climax. But it’s not like that rather the viewer knows the culprit much before the climax. The flashback sequences do not raise any spirits at all. The main protagonists of the movie, Alma Saraci and Carlucci Veyant, do well with the jobs. German model Claudia though does a fine work but she does not get what should have been offered to her. Vijayendra Ghatge is just about okay.

On the whole, ‘Karma – Crime, Passion, Reincarnation’ is an old wine in a new bottle. There is no novelty involved in it. It should best be avoided.
